The ion-exchange resin polisher keeps feedwater conductivity within the PEM stack's operating window (TDS ≤ 5 µS/cm). As the resin saturates, conductivity drifts up and stack efficiency falls. Replacement intervals vary with operating hours, ambient temperature and the purity of refill water; most vehicle applications fall in the 6–9 month range.
